About The Position

Haider Engineering P.C. is seeking Construction Safety Specialists for a PANY&NJ project located at various sites in New York and New Jersey. The firm, established in 1998, is dedicated to providing quality construction engineering services and ensuring the successful completion of all assigned projects. They have a multidisciplinary staff experienced in the design and reconstruction of buildings, roadways, bridges, sewers, water mains, and traffic control facilities.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in construction safety, including accident investigations and accident prevention.
  • Valid NYC DOB Site Safety Supervisor (SST) card (required).
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (required).
  • Valid driver's license (required).
  • Knowledge of construction safety regulations, including OSHA, NYC DOB requirements, FDNY regulations, and local laws.
  • Familiarity with fire safety codes, NFPA standards, and NYC/NJ fire regulations.
  • Ability to review contractor safety and fire safety programs and recommend improvements.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Experience working on large construction projects, including heavy civil and infrastructure work.
  • Experience identifying workplace hazards, conducting investigations, and performing root cause and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Ability to work professionally with inspectors, contractors, project teams, workers, and stakeholders.
  • Experience using safety management software to track hazards, incidents, and project documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • CHST certification or another recognized construction safety certification (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Construction Management, or a related safety field (preferred).
  • Experience working on OCIP (Owner-Controlled Insurance Program) and CCIP (Contractor-Controlled Insurance Program) projects (preferred).
  • PANY & NJ experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Check contracts, drawings, and project documents to ensure work is performed correctly.
  • Ensure contractors adhere to all safety regulations, including OSHA, FDNY, NYCDOB, and local laws.
  • Review contractor safety plans.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with safety rules, plans, and approved procedures.
  • Observe job site conditions, equipment, and work practices to confirm safety and compliance.
  • Submit daily reports to the Port Authority, including photos, safety findings, and any issues or resolutions.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and propose preventative measures.
  • Submit preliminary reports for any accidents or incidents.
  • Collaborate with engineers, safety teams, stakeholders, and other partners to maintain a safe job site.
