About The Position

S&R Enterprises builds structural steel, a high-risk, demanding field where safety is paramount. This role is for a Project Safety Manager focused on a single project site in Fredericksburg, working closely with one crew. The position requires a dedicated safety professional who can own safety on site, provide honest reporting to senior leadership, and ensure all safety protocols are met. The goal is to create a safe working environment where hazards are identified and corrected at the source, crews are well-trained, and regulatory compliance is maintained.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of construction safety experience on active job sites.
  • Steel erection or structural steel experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local construction safety regulations, including rules covering fall protection, confined space, hot work, lockout tagout, and chemical management.
  • Experience leading agency inspections on site and serving as the contractor point of contact during the visit.
  • A track record of investigating incidents, writing factual narrative reports, and closing corrective actions.
  • Experience delivering new hire orientation, operator training for forklifts, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts, and ongoing compliance training to field crews.
  • Comfort with SharePoint for document management.
  • Solid skill with common office software for reports, logs, and presentations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to brief executive leadership and coach foremen with equal credibility.
  • Able to work independently on a single project site while reporting to safety leadership at the company level.
  • Able to walk and work on uneven ground in extreme temperatures.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Able to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolds, and aerial lifts.
  • Able to wear conventional fall protection equipment rated to a 300 pound universal weight restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Own the condition that work gets done the safe way on the assigned site, shift after shift.
  • Ensure site-specific programs are in place and match federal, state, and local rules.
  • Conduct daily observations and weekly audits to catch hazards.
  • Document and track unsafe conditions to a closed corrective action.
  • Ensure the job runs clean and organized, and equipment is accounted for.
  • Investigate every incident, accident, and near miss by walking the area, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing documents.
  • Ensure the written record is clear, factual, and complete, and the injury log stays current.
  • Ensure each finding turns into a correction that gets made and a control that prevents a repeat.
  • Ensure every person on the site knows the safe way to do the work before they start it.
  • Oversee new hire orientation and associated paperwork.
  • Conduct refresher and post-incident retraining as needed.
  • Ensure operator training for forklifts, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts stays current.
  • Mentor foremen and crew leads on safe methods.
  • Document completion and track certifications.
  • Build relationships with the general contractor, neighboring businesses, and others on site.
  • Provide the daily report the GC counts on.
  • Represent S&R during federal agency inspections and serve as the point of contact for regulatory bodies.
  • Coach foremen and crew leads toward a site where people speak up about hazards and look out for each other.
  • Ensure safety paperwork is accurate, current, and organized.
  • Ensure job hazard analyses and PPE assessments exist for the work being done.
  • Ensure certificates go to the right shared folders and the assigned job folder stays updated.
  • Ensure hazardous and non-hazardous waste is handled, labeled, and stored correctly.
  • Ensure required documentation is complete and checked before it goes to the office.
  • Watch the forecast and plan for adverse conditions.
