About The Position

The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety and health programs to minimize risk, prevent incidents, and ensure compliance with federal OSHA requirements, applicable OSHA-approved State Plan requirements, local AHJ requirements, client requirements, and LPI policies across industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, production equipment, and electrical construction projects. The role leads company-wide safety initiatives, supports multiple construction sites, and fosters a proactive safety culture through field presence, training, hazard identification, corrective action, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent relevant safety experience may be considered.
Minimum five (5) years of progressive safety management experience in industrial, manufacturing, or construction environments; experience in electrical, mechanical, or production-equipment construction is strongly preferred.
OSHA 510 Certificate and OSHA 30-Hour Construction course completion required or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable period after hire, as determined by LPI.
In-depth understanding of applicable OSHA standards, including 29 CFR Parts 1926 and 1910 as applicable, OSHA-approved State Plan requirements, NFPA 70E, electrical safety, and relevant environmental requirements.
Demonstrated ability to develop and review site-specific safety plans, JHAs/AHAs, pre-task plans, risk assessments, LOTO programs, fall protection programs, and other construction safety controls.
Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, CAPA, OSHA recordkeeping, field audits, and safety performance analysis.
Proven ability to implement consistent safety systems across multiple construction sites and coordinate with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, and regulatory representatives.
Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, training, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of using safety management, incident tracking, and document management systems.
CPR/First Aid/AED certification required or ability to obtain it within a reasonable period after hire, as determined by LPI.
Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites nationwide and support urgent safety matters outside normal working hours when necessary.

Nice To Haves

Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or comparable professional safety credential is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide and site-specific safety policies, programs, procedures, and site-specific safety plans tailored to project operations.
Conduct regular workplace inspections, field audits, risk assessments, and hazard analyses to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and ensure corrective actions are assigned, tracked, and closed.
Coordinate OSHA 10- and 30-hour Outreach Training as appropriate, verify that such training is provided by OSHA-authorized trainers, and ensure employer- and site-specific training required by applicable standards is also completed.
Establish standardized safety orientation, onboarding, toolbox talk, refresher training, and competency-verification procedures for all project sites.
Conduct or coordinate safety meetings, emergency drills, and routine field audits.
Ensure compliance with federal OSHA requirements, applicable OSHA-approved State Plan requirements, local AHJ requirements, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Implement and maintain Stop Work Authority, empowering employees and subcontractors to stop unsafe work without fear of retaliation.
Establish and maintain internal safety procedures aligned with LPI corporate safety strategy and project-specific safety requirements.
Develop and deliver or coordinate training on electrical hazards, lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, mobile equipment and aerial lifts, hot work, confined spaces, emergency response, and other applicable safe work practices.
Implement periodic safety leadership training for project managers, site managers, supervisors, and foremen.
Maintain a company-wide training matrix and detailed records of training, certifications, qualifications, expiration dates, and compliance documentation for all applicable jurisdictions and client requirements.
Ensure safety information and training are communicated in a language and vocabulary that affected employees can understand, as required by applicable standards and company policy.
Stay current with regulatory changes, industry trends, emerging hazards, and safety best practices, and update company programs accordingly.
Monitor and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local safety and environmental requirements across multiple U.S. project locations, including applicable OSHA-approved State Plan requirements.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of applicable OSHA construction and general industry standards, including 29 CFR Parts 1926 and 1910 as applicable, NFPA 70E, electrical safety requirements, and relevant environmental standards.
Manage OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping, including OSHA Forms 300, 300A, and 301, and coordinate electronic submissions and regulatory notifications when applicable.
Coordinate required reporting of work-related fatalities, in-patient hospitalizations, amputations, or losses of an eye in accordance with applicable OSHA or State Plan requirements.
Support regulatory inspections and audits and serve as the primary safety contact with OSHA, State Plan agencies, AHJs, client safety representatives, and general contractors in coordination with company leadership.
Lead investigations of injuries, illnesses, property damage, environmental incidents, near-misses, and high-potential events using root cause analysis and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action).
Immediately escalate serious incidents to the Senior Director, Mechanical & Production Equipment and the Senior Director, Electrical Construction, and coordinate internal and regulatory reporting as required.
Determine recordability and reportability in coordination with company leadership and other responsible functions, and maintain complete investigation documentation.
Communicate lessons learned and verify that corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented across applicable project sites.
Track safety KPIs and leading/lagging indicators, including TRIR, DART, severity, near-misses, observations, inspections, and corrective-action closure rates, and drive performance improvement plans.
Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging employees, supervisors, project teams, and subcontractors in safety initiatives and encouraging hazard reporting and proactive safety behavior.
Recognize and reinforce safe work practices and achievements to motivate employees and project teams.
Serve as a point of contact for safety-related concerns and provide practical guidance and advice to employees, supervisors, managers, and project leadership.
Encourage worker participation in inspections, pre-task planning, job hazard analyses, safety observations, and continuous improvement activities.
Develop and maintain site-specific emergency action and response plans for foreseeable scenarios, including fire, medical emergencies, severe weather, chemical releases, electrical incidents, and other project-specific hazards.
Ensure emergency equipment, including fire extinguishers, first aid kits, emergency eyewash/shower equipment where applicable, and emergency exits, is properly maintained and readily available.
Conduct or coordinate emergency drills and, when appropriate, interface with client representatives, general contractors, local emergency responders, and medical providers.
Support business continuity and incident response activities.
Analyze safety performance data, trends, audit findings, near-misses, and recurring hazards to identify areas for improvement.
Recommend and implement safety process improvements, technologies, and initiatives that enhance workplace safety and risk control.
Collaborate with HR, Operations, Project Management, Engineering, Quality, Facilities, and other departments to integrate safety goals into daily operations and project execution.
Support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the LPI HQ Safety Management System.
Support subcontractor and client pre-qualification registrations, safety questionnaires, audits, and requests for supporting safety documentation.
Travel to jobsites on a recurring basis, prioritizing higher-risk activities and project needs, to support field inspections, audits, investigations, training, and emergency response.
Ensure consistent implementation of LPI safety systems and minimum requirements across all LPI-managed construction locations.
Provide direct safety advisory support to project managers, site managers, supervisors, and field teams as needed.
Support mobilization and startup safety planning for new projects and assist with site-specific safety program implementation.
Review and support approval of subcontractor safety plans, JHAs/AHAs, pre-task plans, permits, and other required safety documentation before work begins.
Evaluate subcontractor safety performance, training records, incident history, and corrective actions as part of pre-qualification and ongoing project oversight.
Monitor subcontractor compliance with LPI, general contractor, client, and regulatory requirements and escalate unresolved or serious safety issues to project leadership.
Participate in preconstruction, kickoff, coordination, and safety meetings with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
Manage OSHA logs, internal safety incident databases, training records, audit records, and corrective-action tracking systems.
Generate and submit weekly and monthly safety reports to the Senior Director, Mechanical & Production Equipment; Senior Director, Electrical Construction; and HQ, as applicable.
Ensure timely assignment, tracking, closure, verification, and documentation of corrective actions.
Prepare dashboards and management summaries on safety performance, significant risks, trends, regulatory matters, and improvement priorities.
