About The Position

Join a contractor supporting a major energy infrastructure project at an active power generation facility in Chesterfield, VA. This is a long-term opportunity providing hands-on construction safety leadership during the conversion of existing coal-fired turbine operations to natural gas. The project includes piping removal and installation, pipe rack construction, mechanical work, heavy equipment operations, crane and rigging activities, hot work, and energy isolation within an active power generation environment. The Construction Safety Manager will maintain a strong field presence while partnering with craft personnel, supervision, and project leadership to safely execute complex construction activities while maintaining compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.

Requirements

  • OSHA 500 Certification
  • OSHA 30 Construction Certification
  • Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards
  • Working knowledge of Power Generation & Energy Construction Safety
  • Working knowledge of Mechanical Piping & Pipe Rack Construction
  • Working knowledge of Industrial Plant Modifications
  • Working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Working knowledge of Hazardous Energy Control
  • Working knowledge of Crane & Rigging Operations
  • Working knowledge of Lift Planning & Material Handling
  • Working knowledge of Welding, Cutting & Hot Work
  • Working knowledge of Fall Protection & Elevated Work

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily construction safety activities throughout the power generation project
  • Maintain a highly visible field presence alongside craft personnel and project supervision
  • Provide safety oversight for piping removal, installation, and pipe rack construction
  • Monitor activities associated with the conversion of coal-fired turbine systems to natural gas
  • Support mechanical construction, welding, cutting, and other hot work activities
  • Monitor crane, rigging, lifting, and material handling operations
  • Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazardous energy control, and system isolation activities
  • Conduct routine site inspections, audits, field observations, and hazard assessments
  • Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), permits, lift plans, and pre-task plans
  • Monitor fall protection, elevated work, scaffolding, and aerial lift activities
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and facility-specific safety requirements
  • Identify unsafe conditions and coordinate immediate corrective actions
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses
  • Maintain required safety documentation, inspection records, and compliance reports
  • Coordinate safety activities with project management, field supervision, and contractors
  • Provide field coaching and reinforce safe work practices throughout the project
