About The Position

SpaceX is seeking a Construction Safety Engineer to join their EHS Team for the construction of Memphis’s future AI Supercomputer infrastructure. This role will provide technical expertise and assist in the implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical construction safety knowledge, with hands-on experience in crane and rigging, heavy equipment, welding, and fabrication. This position requires a candidate who is highly skilled in both environmental and occupational safety, is hands-on, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The role involves working as part of a highly integrated team to ensure the overall success of SpaceX programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, development, and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines within the construction industry
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience using Building Codes and National Electric Code
  • Familiarity and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs
  • Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful, permanent resident, Refugee, or Asylee eligible for required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering, mechanical engineering, or occupational health and safety

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage day-to-day EHS site operations for a fast-paced construction project.
  • Implement, enforce, and audit the site’s construction contractor EHS management program for SpaceX employees and contractors.
  • Develop and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification inspections.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments, establish PPE requirements, and implement health and safety policies.
  • Provide technical oversight and support for high-risk mechanical construction tasks including crane and rigging operations, heavy equipment use, welding, and steel fabrication.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee exposure to hazards.
  • Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met.
  • Educate and provide necessary safety training to construction personnel.
  • Investigate and write reports for incidents, spills, injuries, or occupational diseases.
  • Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable EPA, RCRA, DOT, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of resources to safety-related items.
