Construction QA/QC Engineering Technician

About The Position

Stantec is seeking a safety-focused leader with construction field experience to oversee construction quality control (QA/QC) on a mine remediation project near Spokane, Washington. This person will work onsite daily, directing a team that verifies that construction meets design specifications while working alongside the client and various contractors. This is a full-time onsite role. Qualified candidates will have relevant field experience and a degree in engineering or geology; an associate’s degree with strong surveying skills; a professional surveying license; or comparable, relevant work experience meeting job requirements. These roles include leadership, daily interaction with the client, and seeing years of geotechnical engineering and mine reclamation design implemented. Work shift is 4 days per week working 10-hour shifts plus a one-hour drive each way for a total of 48 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Minimum an associate’s degree in a relevant program with strong construction management or surveying skills, professional surveying license; or comparable, relevant work experience meeting job requirements.
  • 4-8 years of work experience — including field work — on environmental, civil and/or geotechnical engineering projects, focusing on detailed design, site investigation, and technical communication.
  • Exceptional technical writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional technical leadership abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the field at remote sites.
  • Experience using typical professional software packages including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in engineering or geology preferred.
  • Preference given to mine remediation/reclamation related work experience, as well as survey experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

  • Identify problems, deficiencies, and design deviations, and develop potential courses of action to address these issues, while communicating and articulating them to the client, construction contractor, and Stantec leadership.
  • Lead and attend daily, weekly, and monthly meetings.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented in both verbal and written communication, data collection, and data review.
  • Creating and maintaining a high-functioning safety culture, tracking compliance with safe work practices and adhering to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
  • Planning, coordinating, directing, and executing Stantec QA/QC field team activities and documentation, including field observations, sample collection, field testing (as required), and daily field reports.
  • Reviewing and responding to technical memoranda, requests for information (RFIs), as well as detailed as-built reports pertaining to the project construction activities.
  • Providing supervision and direction for various QA/QC activities including sample collection, gradation analyses, material density testing, and surveying.
  • Interacting daily with client management, engineering, and field staff to plan and execute field engineering and CQA activities.
