About The Position

Ferguson Construction (FC) is a regionally established General Contractor with over 100 years of experience in heavy and light industrial, commercial, healthcare, and institutional markets. FC has an in-house design department and self-performs concrete, masonry, steel erection, general carpentry, and sheet metal roofing and siding trades. Our Project Engineers are crucial to our project teams, offering opportunities to develop a diverse skillset and gain valuable knowledge for a successful career. The primary role is to support the Project Superintendent in delivering successful projects by ensuring a safe work environment, quality construction, effective planning and scheduling, cost management, stakeholder collaboration, and excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will be growth-oriented, possess long-term thinking, strong relationship-building skills, and a developing understanding of the construction industry.

Requirements

  • Proficient knowledge in project management software, Procore.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail with auditing mentality in analyzing both the mathematical and scope portions of estimating.
  • Understand how estimating supports construction operations.
  • Bachelor's Degree - Engineering, Construction Management, or similar technical training/experience.
  • Past field co-op experience in related construction industry/skilled trades.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other technical drawings and documents.
  • Good organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive working knowledge and understanding of the contract documents (including contract, plans, specifications, and applicable codes).
  • Monitor and control project quality from start to finish.
  • Identify scope of work or specifications as well as risk issues.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and trade superintendents.
  • Review take offs, general conditions, and add-ons.
  • Build effective relationships with customers, design team, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values.
  • Attend project meetings and assist with coordination of trades.
  • Create project critical path schedules.
  • Assist project team with long-term projections.
  • Write Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Recognize and document scope change discovery, research, identification, and estimating.
  • Represent the company in meetings with the owner and subcontractors.
  • Gather information required for pricing.
  • Estimate change order items.
  • Assist in developing owner pay applications.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety standards and applicable safety codes and regulations.
  • Review work as it is being placed to ensure accuracy within accepted tolerances.
  • Review contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure proper coordination and installation.
  • Assist in preparation of project as-builts.
  • Manage the subcontract change order process including review of subcontractor estimates, negotiation of change orders, obtaining required owner approvals, and preparation of subcontract change orders.
  • Manage project close-out, including securing warranties, guarantees, and acceptance of work, subcontract and vendor close, final payment, and records retention.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
