About The Position

Encorus Group is seeking a Construction Materials Testing Technician / NDE Assistant to join their growing Rochester team. This role is ideal for recent graduates of welding, construction, manufacturing, and skilled trades programs, or individuals with hands-on construction, fabrication, or mechanical experience seeking a stable, long-term technical career with growth opportunities. The position involves supporting the Civil Testing and Nondestructive Examination (NDE) services group, with a focus on hands-on work, problem-solving, and a dynamic work environment. No prior materials testing or NDE experience is required, as the company provides paid training, mentorship, and support for industry certifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain certifications from ACI, NICET, ICC, and AWS, and maintain them as directed by the company.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments and active construction sites.
  • Comfortable working in varying environmental and weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate a motor vehicle for field testing and inspections.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client project sites locally on a regular basis.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and background check.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in construction, manufacturing, welding, fabrication, or other hands-on technical environments.
  • OSHA safety training.
  • Relevant industry certifications (ACI, NICET, ICC, AWS, etc.) are a plus but not required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn new skills and technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials, including concrete, soil, asphalt, and aggregate, in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Operate and maintain materials testing equipment in both field and laboratory environments.
  • Examine test samples and utilize measuring devices, blueprints, drawings, and project specifications to perform testing activities.
  • Assist with the evaluation of test and construction data, communicating findings to supervisors and laboratory personnel.
  • Utilize tablets, computers, and mobile devices to document field activities, complete reports, and communicate project information.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing procedures, results, equipment maintenance, and calibration activities.
  • Support Senior NDE Inspectors with nondestructive examination services, including opportunities to gain exposure to industrial radiography (X-ray testing) and other advanced inspection methods used to evaluate the quality and integrity of critical infrastructure and manufactured components.
