About The Position

Building & Earth is seeking a Construction Materials Testing Level II Technician to provide testing and observation on assigned field projects in accordance with applicable specifications for independent testing laboratories. The position involves sample preparation, collection and testing, field observations, and documentation of construction activities related to soil, concrete, grout, mortar, and asphalt. The technician must clearly identify, verbally communicate, and document results and activities for more advanced testing. The role is generally full time, with a normal schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours are regularly adjusted to accommodate client construction schedules and may include night work, weekend rotations, and early mornings. Daily travel to construction sites, generally within 100 miles of the home office, is expected. Short-term out-of-town work, generally lasting less than two weeks, is probable; occasional longer assignments may be required with advance notice. Reliable transportation to and from the branch office at all hours may be needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 12 months of experience.
ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Level I Certification.
Portable Nuclear Gauge Safety Training Certification.
Understanding of Proctor Compaction testing and USCS Soil Classification.
Training and demonstrated competency in One-Point Proctor testing in the field.
ICC Soils Special Inspector Certification.
Competency in reading detailed plans and specifications.
Competency in mortar and grout sampling and testing.
General knowledge of asphalt placement monitoring.
Must pass relevant tests and/or achieve valid signatures.
Skilled in using computers and common software applications, with the ability to learn company-specific software and programs.
Ability to follow directions, communicate effectively, and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to act professionally and handle stressful situations, multiple priorities, and hectic schedules calmly and courteously.
Ability to work ethically, honestly, and safely.
Valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence.
Must be insurable under applicable corporation insurance policies and requirements.
Ability to move, lift, or carry objects or materials weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and maneuver physically around construction sites and excavations.
Sufficient visual and hearing ability to understand written and verbal English communications and communicate directly and by telephone.
Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule, including night work and some weekend work.

Responsibilities

Receive, understand, and carry out written and verbal directions.
Review civil and structural plan specifications and identify sections applicable to the project scope.
Perform tests, construction inspections, and observations according to project requirements with little to no supervision.
Submit daily field reports documenting testing, inspections, and observations.
Document and communicate non-conforming items to designated project supervision.
Clean, maintain, and calibrate assigned equipment according to applicable codes and standards.
Transport, operate, and care for a nuclear density gauge in accordance with the Radiation Safety Program Policy.
Demonstrate competency in One-Point Proctor testing in the field.
Read detailed plans and specifications.
Perform mortar and grout sampling and testing.
Monitor asphalt placement.
Create and maintain accurate, confidential test records and prepare understandable reports.
Drive a company vehicle and comply with company operating and safety guidelines.
