Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Technician
About The Position
Intertek is seeking a Construction Materials Lab Technician I to join their Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Phoenix, Arizona. This role offers a career opportunity in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry. Intertek-PSI is a leading US-based provider of construction assurance, testing, and inspection services, including construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing. The Construction Materials Lab Technician I will perform various construction materials testing, project-specific observations, and site assessment duties under general supervision and/or following detailed procedures.
Requirements
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- No experience required; training will be provided
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and understand work plans, specifications, and instructions
- Basic math and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility to work overtime, off-shift, or occasional overnight hours as business needs require
Nice To Haves
- 1-year geotechnical lab experience
- ACI Strength or ATTI certification
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of geotechnical laboratory tests under direct supervision and established procedures
- Conduct testing such as Atterberg Limits, Sieve Analysis, Unconfined Compressive Strength, CBR, Swell, and other soil classification and engineering tests
- Operate laboratory equipment and maintain testing instruments in accordance with company procedures
- Concrete compressive strength testing
- Accurately document test data, observations, and results
- Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to support testing activities
- Perform calculations and prepare reports using standard laboratory methods and software tools
- Assist with project-specific observations and site assessment activities as needed
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, clients, and team members
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment
