About The Position

Terracon's Omaha, NE office is seeking students pursuing civil or construction engineering degrees for a summer internship program. Internships typically run from May to August, with Co-Op options available from May to December. This program is part of Terracon's Materials service line, offering a hands-on, engaging work experience alongside experienced engineering professionals and advanced technology. Interns will benefit from technical advancement, professional development opportunities, and mentorship from a leader in the materials engineering field. The program aims to provide insights into client interaction, the differences between consulting and design engineering, and the overall field of consulting engineering. Participants can also join an intern cohort to connect with peers across the company, build professional networks, and attend a concluding summit for leadership interaction, career growth insights, and relationship building.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Currently pursuing a BS or Master's degree in civil or construction engineering
  • Less than one year remaining to complete their BS degree

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to effectively write a proposal
  • Provide a high level of client experience
  • Learn how to correctly manage change orders
  • Execute projects safely, accurately, and profitably
  • Learn about project management, project execution, and client development
  • Gain hands-on experience in site safety and safe work practices
  • Perform sampling or testing as directed
  • Provide assistance to other field and/or laboratory personnel
  • Transport equipment, specimens, or documents
  • Provide physical assistance in equipment set-up
  • Assist technicians or professional staff on routine tasks
  • Learn industry-standard proposal and report writing practices
  • Be exposed to client interaction
  • Understand test procedures (ASTM, DOT, COE, etc.)
  • Prepare reports
  • Learn how to communicate test results to clients
  • Learn about laboratory organization, scheduling, and efficiency
  • Learn about quality management systems and procedures
