Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician (Experienced)
About The Position
Braun Intertec is seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician for its Austin, Texas office. The technician performs onsite testing of construction materials—including soils, concrete, masonry, and asphalt—on industrial, commercial, and transportation construction projects throughout the region. The role includes technical training and the opportunity to earn industry certifications after successfully completing examinations and demonstrating the required abilities. The position is part of a fast-paced team at a 100% employee-owned company with a steady and growing project backlog.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of construction materials testing experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Certification required.
- Strong safety focus and attention to detail.
- Excellent plan-reading skills.
- Demonstrated math and technical aptitude.
- Flexibility to work extended or nontraditional hours as needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift more than 75 pounds.
- Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- May need to work on uneven terrain, at varying heights, in confined spaces, or in supported trenches.
Nice To Haves
- State DOT certifications and/or NICET certifications.
- ICC Concrete and Soils Certification; applicants without it must be willing to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex sampling and testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry, and asphalt.
- Perform field concrete testing, including slump, air content, and temperature tests.
- Perform field density tests of soils.
- Prepare daily reports and document field activities electronically.
- Work with project managers and senior technicians or staff to ensure specifications are followed.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior staff, as needed.
