About The Position

S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Construction Materials Staff Engineer seeking a role that offers exposure to a wide range of projects, hands‑on learning, and clear opportunities for professional growth to join our Construction Services team in Greensboro, North Carolina. As a Construction Materials Engineer, you are vital in guaranteeing the integrity and safety of construction endeavors by evaluating and confirming the characteristics and quality of materials used. Working under the supervision of a Licensed Engineer, you will coordinate field explorations, field logging of soil samples, perform engineering calculations/design, prepare proposals and reports, and provide project and client support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a similar engineering field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction materials testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
  • Engineering-in-Training (EIT) license and on track to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
  • Basic math and communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language

  • Project management experience or interest in project management

Responsibilities

  • Perform tests and oversee special inspections of materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and others to ensure they meet project specifications and industry standards.
  • Verify that construction plans and specifications align with project goals before conducting field observations.
  • Document detailed observations and test results during project execution, using Metafield® or other management systems daily for efficient data handling and coordination.
  • Help draft reports and proposals for smaller projects, ensuring thorough and accurate assessments and documentation.
  • Interact with management, contractors, and clients to maintain project transparency and provide regular updates on progress.
