About The Position

S&ME is seeking a motivated and passionate Construction Materials Project Manager to join our Construction Services team in Charleston, South Carolina. This role involves leading the delivery of construction materials testing, special inspections, and technical consulting services for various projects. The position requires managing field operations, interpreting testing results, developing reports and proposals, and mentoring junior staff. A strong understanding of soils, concrete, asphalt, and masonry testing is essential for ensuring project quality and fostering client relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or a similar technical field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in project management of construction materials testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt.
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician certifications.
  • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils) certifications.
  • Excellent business and technical writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively lead teams with varying responsibilities and tasks.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support subsurface exploration activities, evaluate potential impacts to data reliability, recommend modifications to project scope, and coordinate laboratory testing programs.
  • Carry out field inspections and construction monitoring activities, maintain accurate documentation of site conditions, and provide guidance to junior staff on testing and inspection procedures.
  • Perform technical evaluations and intermediate-level engineering calculations, assist in training junior personnel on analytical procedures, and review laboratory results for consistency and accuracy.
  • Develop detailed technical reports and daily field summaries, contribute to proposal preparation, and assist with drafting project scopes.
  • Support client communication and relationship-building efforts, participate in networking and professional association activities, and assist with business development and office growth initiatives.
