About The Position

S&ME is seeking a motivated and hard-working entry-level Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team in Atlanta, Georgia. This role involves examining and evaluating materials such as soil, concrete, masonry, and asphalt. You will collaborate with experienced technicians and experts to ensure precise documentation of test outcomes, maintain laboratory instruments, and assist with equipment calibrations. Your contribution will be crucial in verifying that materials comply with required standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn
  • Obtain GDOT soil certification within 90 days of employment
  • Obtain GDOT aggregate certification within 180 days of employment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills in English, including speaking, reading, and writing
  • Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • Understanding of a fluctuating weekly schedule
  • Willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment
  • Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially long periods
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
  • Candidates must comply with our Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Only candidates with valid employment eligibility (I-9) will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • One(1) or more active certifications, a plus: American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
  • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
  • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete

Responsibilities

  • Perform and record tests on various construction materials with accuracy and meticulousness.
  • Operate independently to ensure test results are logical, thorough, and prepared for review.
  • Keep all laboratory equipment in excellent condition and ensure it is properly calibrated.
  • Maintain the lab's efficiency and the accuracy of testing procedures.
  • Experience shifting work hours weekly based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, some weekends, and overtime.
