About The Position

S&ME is seeking motivated, full-time entry-level or experienced Construction Materials Engineering Technicians to join our Construction Services group. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality and safety of construction projects by testing materials like soil, concrete, and asphalt. The position offers hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities for advancement, with seasoned professionals able to take on leadership roles. Responsibilities include learning to test various materials, performing field and lab tests, maintaining equipment, conducting inspections per IBC codes, and documenting findings using Metafield®. The role involves shifting work hours based on project demands and weather, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime. Occasional travel to support other offices is also part of the job, with per diem and lodging provided.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-2 years relevant experience testing soil, concrete, or asphalt (for Associate Technician/Technician I).
  • Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Basic math proficiency, including understanding of measurements and units of weight.
  • Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel.
  • Valid United States driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) for driving in the US, with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate a company-assigned vehicle safely (Truck or SUV).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with an Associate's degree (for Technician II).
  • 3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with an Associate's degree (for Technician III).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience (for Technician IV).
  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus (for Technician IV).

Responsibilities

  • Test concrete, soils, asphalt, and masonry.
  • Perform field and lab tests.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Ensure accurate and complete reporting on test results.
  • Conduct inspections per IBC codes.
  • Document findings.
  • Manage data using Metafield®.
