About The Position

S&ME is seeking motivated, full-time entry-level or experienced Construction Materials Engineering Technicians to join their Construction Services group in Raleigh, North Carolina. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality and safety of construction projects, ranging from local businesses to large sports venues. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid United States driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) for driving in the US, with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate a company-assigned vehicle safely (Truck or SUV).
  • Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Basic math proficiency, including understanding of measurements and units of weight.
  • Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel.
  • Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels.
  • Industry certifications such as American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician, and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils).
  • For Technician IV: prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performing field and laboratory testing on construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
  • Collecting and preparing samples for analysis.
  • Interpreting test results and preparing detailed reports.
  • Collaborating with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure work meets specifications and safety guidelines.
  • Shifting work hours based on project demands and weather, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime.
  • Occasional travel to support other offices.
