About The Position

S&ME is seeking a hardworking, motivated individual to join our Construction Services team in Atlanta, Georgia, as a Construction Materials Engineering Technician. This role is perfect for individuals looking to enhance their skills in construction materials testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials while gaining additional industry certifications. As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will spend most of your time outdoors, participating in projects and ensuring their integrity and safety. Your contributions will be recognized as you witness projects come to life and gain valuable expertise.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • Active industry certifications, such as: American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician; International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils); DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • Understand a fluctuating work schedule and occasional travel
  • Willing and Able to perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as: Working outdoors in varying weather conditions, Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day), Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment), Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
  • Candidates must comply with our Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Only candidates with valid employment eligibility (I-9) will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Comprehend project specifications before fieldwork; precisely document observations and test outcomes related to construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials.
  • Effectively handle data using field and lab information systems.
  • Verify that field and laboratory equipment are precise and comply with industry standards.
  • Adhere to International Building Code (IBC) guidelines for testing and inspecting construction materials.
  • Communicate with supervisors, contractors, and clients to report on project status and address any issues.
  • Experience shifting work hours based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime (paid at time and a half).
