Senior (CM) Construction Manager

Overwatch Mission CriticalChicago, IL
Onsite

About The Position

Overwatch Mission Critical is a service-disabled Veteran-owned small business (SDVOB) certified through the National Veterans Business Development Council (NVBDC). We offer construction professional services, talent acquisition, and general contractor services for the mission-critical infrastructure industry. Our mission is the construction and management of state-of-the-art data centers with the precision and reliability this industry demands. We deploy the people you need to get your data center off the ground. At Overwatch, it's more than a job. It's a purpose.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of construction experience (commercial, multifamily, office, or similar)
  • Strong communication, client-facing, and presentation skills
  • Relationship building and team collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to project manage and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong culture fit
  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, twist, bend, and climb stairs or ladders for extended periods while navigating uneven, unpaved, or obstructed terrain.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to drive between job sites and access all areas of an active construction zone, including raised platforms, scaffolding, and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and construction-related noise, vibrations, and odors.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and site personnel, and maintain situational awareness in high-activity environments.
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity to read drawings, specifications, and safety signage, and to observe site activity.

Nice To Haves

  • For roles that require on-site presence or travel between work locations as an essential function of the position, candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license appropriate for the role and be eligible to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with applicable laws.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as team's on-site eyes and ears from pre-construction through testing and final handover, documenting daily progress and job-site activity so the team and A/E team can make timely decisions.
  • Attend and facilitate meetings with the General Contractor, design team, and local utilities to stay current on project status — without directing or managing their work. All contractor management remains with the GC; the Sr CM's role is observation and reporting, not oversight.
  • Review General Contractor pay applications and change order requests for accuracy and completeness, and escalate anything outstanding (including change orders over 30 days old) to the team. Budget and schedule decisions are made by the team and the A/E team, not the Sr CM.
  • Identify and immediately escalate potential risks — schedule, cost, safety, quality — to the team. The Sr CM's top priority is surfacing issues fast and transparently, not resolving them independently.
  • Track and document progress on MEP work, including power and cooling infrastructure, through daily logs and infrastructure trackers, flagging any concerns to the team.
  • Provide daily, unfiltered updates — logs, photos, and trackers — and participate in regular meetings with the team leadership and the design team to keep them fully and transparently informed of project health.
  • The Sr. CM (WSFO) role differs slightly from our typical Sr. CM (Base Build) position, as it is more customer- and client-facing.
