About The Position

Food For the Poor Jamaica is seeking an experienced Construction Manager. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and ensures efficient implementation of construction programs while maintaining quality control according to the agreed standards. Requirements

  • Master's’ Degree in a Construction related field
  • Project Management Certification Required
  • 10 years of in-field construction experience, with at least four years’ experience in a decision-making capacity, with responsibility for budgets and implementation related to construction activities or site management
  • Commercial and business experience
  • In-depth knowledge of risk assessment and management tools and practices
  • Strong communication skills, marked by an ability to interact with persons at all socio-economic and professional levels
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in the MS Office Suite, especially in spreadsheet, presentation and project management or scheduling; demonstrated comfort with construction specific software
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure while making effective decisions
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong leadership skills

Responsibilities

  • Plan and review construction projects to ensure alignment with the mission/vision of FFP and the expectations of the donors/funding agencies
  • Review plans, drawings and costings for appropriateness and correctness
  • Liaise with relevant government agencies in order to identify and/or respond quickly to potential bottlenecks in the various approval processes
  • Represent FFP at the leadership level with local and international stakeholders
  • Manage staff to ensure maximum productivity
  • Guide the preparation of project and department budgets
  • Prepare and present project and department status reports as per agreed timelines
  • Make appropriate adjustments in manpower, material and scheduling to reduce or offset budget and time overruns
  • Guide the sourcing and replacement of materials
  • Assist in the identification and vetting of contractors
  • Guide the setting of rates for contractors
  • Guide budget and schedule expectations for projects, based on expected deliverables
  • Ensure that appropriate health and safety guidelines are in place and adhered to
  • Keep up to date with local and international best practice, with a view to guiding the improvement and or development of standards and practices within FFP
