The Hamilton LRT Alliance has been selected by Metrolinx as the development partner for the Hamilton LRT – Package 1: Civil & Utilities. Under the alliance model, Aecon provides construction capability and resources as part of an integrated team, working collaboratively with all alliance participants to progress design, cost, and construction schedules during the project’s development phase. Reporting into the Civil Lead, as a Construction Manager, Structures you will play a senior, construction‑led role supporting through design and development phase, with a clear pathway into execution. You will act as the critical link between design, estimating, planning, and construction, ensuring structural solutions are practical, buildable, cost‑efficient, and schedule‑optimized. This role is positioned to influence key decisions early, reducing downstream risk, and will transition into leading the Structures team once the project moves into construction. This role will work in tandem with the Civil Roads Senior Manager to develop the construction strategy and execution plan for all civil works across the corridor. The Civil Roads Senior Manager will be responsible for the roadway, streetscaping, and landscaping scopes whereas the Structures Lead will retain responsibility for the structures components across the corridor.

Requirements

  • Civil or Structural Engineering background preferred, or equivalent hands‑on structures experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in Civil/Structures Construction.
  • Strong experience in Alliance, Design‑Build, Progressive Design-Build, and/or P3 delivery models.
  • Experience in transit construction projects is preferred.
  • Experience interfacing with MTO and railway authorities
  • General knowledge of non-residential construction methods, building systems, and terminology
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for normal functions and special assignments.
  • Proficiency using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) is essential
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Skilled at building positive working relationships and stakeholder management with internal and external clients
  • Good listening and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Alliance model experience considered a strong asset.
  • experience of using estimating software such as Hard Dollar is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a construction‑savvy structural lead during design and development phase ensuring structural designs are buildable, cost‑efficient, and schedule‑optimized.
  • Serve as the bridge between designers, estimators, and construction, preventing design decisions that could drive unnecessary cost or delay.
  • Challenge and workshop structural design concepts to improve constructability.
  • Lead value engineering, options review, and scope optimization exercises for elevated guideways, highway crossings, railway crossings, culverts, retaining walls, railway grade separations etc.
  • Guide designers away from solutions that increase construction risk, cost, or schedule.
  • Influence means and methods, staging, access, and sequencing decisions.
  • Coordinate closely with designers, estimators, schedulers, and construction leadership.
  • Help define the construction strategy for all structural elements.
  • Support development of cost estimates, schedules, risk registers, and methodologies.
  • Work within a collaborative Alliance contract model.
  • Lead the Structures execution team once the project moves into construction.
  • Oversee construction planning, sequencing, and coordination for all structural works.
  • Support commercial performance by managing scope clarity, change impacts, and constructability‑driven efficiencies.
  • Coordinate with project controls, quality, safety, and field leadership to ensure delivery objectives are met.
  • Maintain strong interfaces with the client, designers, and Alliance partners throughout execution.
  • Work closely with the People, Performance, and Culture team for resource planning and talent acquisition to ensure the right people are available at the right time.
