About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to serve as the Owner's Representative for all mechanical construction activities supporting a large-scale hyperscale data center program. Reporting directly to the Owner's Director of Construction, the Mechanical Construction Manager is responsible for providing field leadership and technical oversight throughout the construction, startup, commissioning, and turnover of all mechanical systems. Acting as the owner's primary mechanical representative, this individual protects the owner's interests by ensuring mechanical systems are installed safely, in accordance with design intent, and to the highest standards of quality, reliability, and operational readiness. This role serves as the owner's lead mechanical field representative and technical subject matter expert, working collaboratively with the General Contractor, mechanical trade partners, design consultants, commissioning teams, equipment manufacturers, and fellow Owner's Representatives to successfully deliver the project's critical cooling infrastructure. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience delivering hyperscale data center mechanical systems and demonstrates exceptional technical judgment, leadership, and communication skills. This individual proactively identifies project risks, drives issue resolution, and ensures mechanical systems are delivered in accordance with the owner's expectations for safety, quality, schedule, and long-term operational performance.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience overseeing mechanical construction activities on projects exceeding $250 million in total construction value.
Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, piping layouts, equipment submittals, specifications, sequence of operations, testing documentation, and commissioning procedures.
Working knowledge of mechanical startup, flushing, hydrostatic testing, TAB, commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and owner turnover processes.
Extensive technical knowledge of: Chilled water systems, Cooling towers, Plate heat exchangers, Pumps and hydronic systems, Mechanical piping systems, Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAHs), Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units, Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), Building Automation Systems (BAS), Water treatment systems, Expansion tanks, Testing, Adjusting & Balancing (TAB), Mechanical commissioning, Sequence of Operations (SOO).
8+ years managing mechanical construction activities, including at least 3 years supporting hyperscale data center construction projects in an owner, general contractor, or major mechanical trade partner capacity.
Candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license appropriate for the role and be eligible to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with applicable laws.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a professional work environment, including preparing written reports and documentation, conveying information clearly to team members, clients, and stakeholders, and responding appropriately to verbal and written communications related to job duties.

Nice To Haves

Experience supporting multiple hyperscale data center campuses or phased greenfield developments.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field leadership experience.
Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), controls integration, and mechanical commissioning software platforms.

Responsibilities

Serve as the Owner's primary on-site representative for all mechanical construction activities from mobilization through final turnover.
Provide owner-side oversight of mechanical infrastructure including chillers, cooling towers, pumps, piping systems, heat exchangers, expansion tanks, water treatment systems, plate heat exchangers, Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAHs), Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units, Computer Distribution Units (CDUs), hydronic systems, building automation systems (BAS), and associated mechanical equipment.
Review mechanical submittmits, RFIs, shop drawings, piping isometrics, equipment data, specifications, sequence of operations, and construction documents to verify compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and owner standards.
Perform routine field observations to verify workmanship, installation quality, construction sequencing, safety, and compliance with approved construction documents and owner requirements.
Collaborate closely with the General Contractor, mechanical trade partners, design consultants, commissioning teams, equipment manufacturers, and fellow Owner's Representatives to resolve technical issues, maintain project momentum, and protect the owner's interests.
Provide owner-side oversight of the fabrication, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), delivery, storage, installation, startup, testing, and commissioning of critical mechanical equipment including chillers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, CRAHs, CRACs, CDUs, and associated piping systems.
Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), witness equipment testing, review test documentation, and provide recommendations to owner leadership prior to equipment shipment.
Oversee mechanical startup activities, flushing, pressure testing, hydrostatic testing, TAB (Testing, Adjusting & Balancing), sequence verification, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), integrated systems testing (IST), and final turnover activities.
Verify compliance with mechanical safety requirements, applicable codes, manufacturer's installation requirements, and project safety standards throughout construction.
Partner with the MEP Manager, Commissioning Manager, Commissioning Authority (CxA), General Contractor, and owner stakeholders to support commissioning planning, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and final owner acceptance.
Monitor mechanical punch list items, deficiencies, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective actions through final completion.
Review contractor schedule updates to verify mechanical progress, identify impacts to critical path activities, and recommend recovery strategies when required.
Review mechanical change order proposals and field directives for technical accuracy, constructability, schedule impact, and owner risk, providing recommendations to owner leadership.
Verify proper integration of mechanical systems with electrical infrastructure, controls, fire protection systems, and Building Automation Systems (BAS) to support successful commissioning and long-term operations.
Maintain comprehensive daily reports, field observations, progress photographs, issue logs, and owner correspondence documenting mechanical construction activities.
Support project closeout through review of as-built drawings, operations and maintenance manuals, commissioning documentation, TAB reports, warranty packages, training records, and final turnover deliverables.
