About The Position

NewSchool of Architecture & Design (NewSchool) is a globally recognized and awarded design university known for its forward-thinking professors, inspiring campus community, and strong industry connections and collaboration opportunities. NewSchool is seeking dynamic and qualified part-time instructors to serve as faculty in our Construction Management program, teaching a mix of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Appointments will be made on a term-by-term basis; however, this position may become full-time in the future. NewSchool faculty members educate and provide learning opportunities for students through face-to-face, blended, and/or online delivery methods. They promote and facilitate student success by creating an environment conducive to learning and student involvement.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, Leadership, or a related field. An unrelated master’s degree is acceptable for candidates with a related undergraduate degree.
  • Minimum of five years of professional work experience in the U.S. construction industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous higher education teaching experience is not required; however, a demonstrated record of high-quality undergraduate or graduate instruction and/or extensive relevant professional expertise is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in multiple subject areas, such as Construction Estimating, Field Supervision, Heavy Civil Construction, Materials and Methods, Surveying, Planning & Scheduling, Pre-Construction, Project Management, Safety, Structural Systems, Virtual Design & Construction, Building Information Modeling, Project Delivery Systems, Team Leadership, and/or Emerging Technologies.
  • Proficiency with construction management applications such as Microsoft Project, P6 or other scheduling applications, Bluebeam, Procore, and Autodesk software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Canvas is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver course content that meets course and program learning outcomes.
  • Use the school’s learning management system (Canvas) to deliver information and assignments and collect students’ work.
  • Assess and document student performance on papers, examinations, projects, and other coursework.
  • Monitor student progress and provide support through feedback, coaching, and academic assistance.
  • Foster student success by demonstrating flexibility in teaching style and delivery methods and a passion for teaching and student interaction.
  • Manage the learning environment through effective recordkeeping, including class-by-class attendance reporting, timely submission of grades and assessment reports, and enforcement of NewSchool academic and attendance policies.
  • Communicate with academic leadership regarding student difficulties or other issues that arise.
  • Provide necessary course documentation and archives for assessment review in accordance with adopted accreditation standards.
  • Report student outcomes and use this information to improve teaching and learning.
  • Promote professionalism by modeling appropriate behavior inside and outside the classroom.
  • Collaborate with appropriate departments to support a positive team environment.
  • Uphold NewSchool values, policies, and procedures.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities that management deems necessary from time to time, including assistance needed to promote the program or maintain the highest level of teaching quality.
