About The Position

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is seeking a Construction & Maintenance Project Lead for the SW Region, located in Olympia, WA. This position works four (4) days a week, 10 hours per day, typically from 6 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday. The role involves regular travel between parks and statewide for various work-related activities. The Project Lead will plan, coordinate, and organize construction and maintenance projects, leading a team of journey-level trades employees. This position requires a strong background in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, masonry, mechanics, and project planning to complete both preventative and deferred maintenance projects. The Southwest Region Crew covers a broad geographical area and works on a diverse range of projects. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, capable of working both independently and collaboratively, and passionate about improving state parks.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.
Class A CDL with tanker endorsement must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
First Aid & CPR certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

Nice To Haves

Experience working for Washington State Parks or a similar parks and recreation entity.
Advanced level experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and light to heavy equipment.
Advanced knowledge and experience working with various types of regular and specialized hand and power tools.
Advanced technical knowledge and experience and expertise in construction, installation, and problem-solving issues impacting agency facilities, sites, and systems.
Experience reading and understanding schematics and blueprints.
Proficient skills and experience with the use of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Advanced Project Management experience coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and vendors/contracts including planning, purchasing, and completion of tasks.
Intermediate knowledge and application of building codes including rules in governing safety, repair, and maintenance and construction of facilities and tasks.
Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Experience organizing and leading other employees in completion of work project including time management, multi-tasking, and communication.

Responsibilities

Serves as a lead and directs work of two or more journey level trade employees and work crews assigned to construction and maintenance projects.
Coordinate projects, leads, directs, and trains work crews and Park staff in construction and maintenance projects.
Responsible for completing preventative maintenance and deferred maintenance projects requiring lead and journey level skills.
Perform journey level work in carpentry, masonry, roofing, plumbing, electrical, welding, and equipment operations.
Leads and directs planning of preventative and deferred maintenance projects including estimating needs for assigned projects including materials, equipment, and workforce.
Inspects work to ensure quality and compliance.
Responsible for planning, proposing (including permitting and budgeting) and providing written documents.
Recommends maintenance work and consults with supervisor.
Responsible for emergency water and wastewater system repairs and emergency repairs of other specialized systems or areas such as swamps, tidal areas, or historic areas.
Respond to and repair area park maintenance related emergencies and urgencies.
Ensure adherence to safety rules, precautions, and equipment protocols.
