Responsibilities

  • Performs various labor duties around the job-site, as needed.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; calling for repairs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in training opportunities.
  • Takes actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
  • Prepares work by studying and clarifying instructions and diagrams; calculating requirements; gathering supplies.
  • Coordinates machine actions with other activities, positions or moves loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
  • Safely moves dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials using articulated dump trucks.
  • Accomplishes operations and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Performs tasks involving physical labor at construction sites and assists other workers.
  • Operates hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.
  • Controls traffic passing near, in, or around work zones with appropriate training provided.
  • Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials with appropriate training provided.
  • Digs ditches or trenches, backfills excavations, or compacts and levels earth using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.
  • Cleans or prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Cleans and prepares sites, digs trenches, sets braces to support the sides of excavations, erects scaffolding, and cleans up rubble and other waste materials.
  • Loads, unloads, or identifies building materials, machinery, or tools while distributing them to the appropriate locations.
