About The Position

As a Summer Intern at Black & Veatch, the Construction Intern contributes to infrastructure projects that support client goals while gaining professional experience. The role assists field superintendents with day-to-day tasks, which may include preparing daily reports, expediting and locating materials, and cost and progress reporting. It is an individual-contributor role with no subordinates, supporting industrial field construction in an outdoor and potentially rugged environment. The internship is part of Black & Veatch’s employee-owned engineering, procurement, consulting, and construction company. The program offers hands-on project experience, mentorship and collaborative training, and networking with industry experts. The position is based at a field project site, with the project location determined closer to the candidate’s start date. Candidates must be willing to relocate for the summer 2027 internship program and have reliable transportation. The position involves physically demanding work at construction sites and in office settings. Duties may require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, and walking long distances over uneven or cluttered areas; working in confined spaces and awkward positions; repetitive hand movements and handling tools or controls; working at heights above five feet; and climbing or balancing on steel frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Work may involve shifts of up to 12 hours of hard physical labor, temperature extremes, inclement weather, dust, wind, snow, rain, very bright or low lighting, distracting or uncomfortable noise, and hazardous equipment. This is a safety-sensitive position. Black & Veatch describes a comprehensive benefits portfolio that includes health care benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, disability coverage, and a wellness program. Other benefits may include flexible work schedules, paid vacation and holidays, sick and dependent sick time, a company-matched 401(k), adoption reimbursement, tuition reimbursement, vendor discounts, an employment referral program, AD&D insurance, pre-tax accounts, a voluntary legal plan, access to the B&V Credit Union, possible performance-based bonuses, and stock ownership through the company’s ESOP.
