About The Position

This internship is open to undergraduate students interested in gaining hands-on practical experience in the construction field. Qualified applicants will assist project teams in managing construction projects, including all phases from bidding to final completion. Assignments may include office and job site work, with potential relocation to remote sites. Transportation is required. Work periods are typically 10-12 weeks with 40 hours per week. Housing may be provided in certain situations.

Requirements

  • Open to undergraduate students.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology or Construction Management, Construction Technology.
  • Must have transportation.
  • Ability to relocate to remote sites may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in managing construction projects from bidding to final completion.
  • Learn the engineering and technical aspects of the project in the field and office.
  • Perform quantity take-off.
  • Assist with layout.
  • Participate in preconstruction/as-built surveys.
  • Review and approve shop drawings and maintain logs.
  • Review and approve submittals and maintain logs.
  • Review and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) and maintain logs.
  • Respond to subcontractor RFIs.
  • Interface with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Attend weekly progress meetings.
  • Assist with coordinating work between the owner, architect, and subcontractors.
  • Assist during the bid process.
  • Review construction documents and specifications.
  • Review all document revisions and clarifications.
  • Maintain field records.
  • Assist with estimates, budgets, value engineering, and constructability surveys.
  • Assist with writing contracts and purchase orders.
  • Assist with preparing billings to the owner and submitting change orders.
  • Assist with the approval of invoices.
  • Assist with ordering and expediting materials.
  • Assist with scheduling and updates.
  • Assist with quality control and safety.
  • Assist with settling contracts.
  • Assist with the permit process.
  • Assist with performing costing, scheduling, estimating, and project management tasks.
  • Participate in punchlist and project closeout activities.
  • Cooperate and work with field project management.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
