About The Position

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP (WRA) is seeking qualified construction inspectors to serve various Local and State clients in the Baltimore region. Requirements

  • High School diploma or State Equivalency Certificate
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant transportation experience.
  • TET III – Mid level technician with 3 years of relevant transportation inspection experience in bridge and/or roadway construction with several accompanying certifications.
  • TET IV – Senior level technician with 5 years of relevant transportation inspection experience in bridge and/or roadway construction with all accompanying certifications.
  • TET V – Project Manager with 8 years of relevant transportation inspection experience in heavy highway, bridge and roadway construction with all accompanying certifications.
  • Demonstrated construction inspection experience with assorted interstate, roadway, bridge, storm drainage, TMDL and building facility contracts involving MDOT SHA construction standards and specifications.
  • Experience with OOC construction inspection contract documentation including preparing Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs), Force Account Records, reconciling Contractor Monthly Invoicing and providing detailed weekly progress reports related to both project progress and budget.
  • All applicable MARTCP certificates (based on contract assignment type).
  • A current SHA Temporary Traffic Control Manager’s Training Course Card (or secure the same prior to work assignment).
  • MDE RPC Card.
  • SHA E&S Yellow Card.
  • OSHA 10 hour training (training paid by WRA).
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Good driving record.
  • Personal vehicle for travel to and from assigned construction sites.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to read/interpret plans and specifications.
  • Writing and drawing skills necessary to complete inspection reports and sketch books.
  • Basic computer skills (Word & Excel) are desirable.
  • Experience with using computer laptops or field tablets for preparing electronic IDRs and photographic documentation.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction inspection for assorted interstate, roadway, bridge, storm drainage, TMDL and building facility contracts involving MDOT SHA construction standards and specifications.
  • Prepare Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs), Force Account Records, reconcile Contractor Monthly Invoicing, and provide detailed weekly progress reports related to project progress and budget.
  • Assist with completion of OOC Resume Packages for SHA approval prior to assignment to contracts.
  • Verify satisfactory SHA OOC annual consultant inspector appraisals.
  • Walk and navigate across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfaces.
  • Move around active project sites, which may involve climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles.
  • Perform physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Remain in a stationary position—either standing or sitting—for extended periods of time.
  • Perform repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and/or cart objects up to 50 lbs distances up to 50 yards.
  • Drive to and from project sites which may involve distances of up to or exceeding 75 miles round trip.
  • Function safely in an environment with potential risks.
  • Work in environments with high and low temperatures, precipitation, and other outdoor elements.
  • Work in noisy conditions or confined/enclosed spaces.
  • Work nights and overtime, when required by the project assignment.
