About The Position

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for our St. Louis office. This role involves the inspection of specific operations on construction job sites for transportation projects. While residing in the greater St. Louis area is not a requirement, inspectors will typically report to various project locations.

Requirements

  • Must be able to travel and stay out of town a week at a time as required providing on-site observation, inspection, and testing.
  • Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds.
  • Knowledge of typical construction practices.
  • Knowledge of MoDOT specifications.
  • Ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
  • Ability to work independently and incorporate efficient time management practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with the owner, landowners, and contractors.
  • Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
  • Experience working with DOTs or municipalities and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of construction related experience preferred.
  • MoDOT Technician Certification is a plus or must be willing to obtain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion.
  • Thorough documentation of daily progress.
  • Computing and tracking materials and quantities.
  • Material sampling and testing.
  • Maintaining timely, accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
  • Reading and interpreting plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Recognizing and reporting any deviations from the contract documents.
  • Conducting laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
  • Maintaining clear and effective written and oral communication and answering inquiries as required.
  • Attending and conducting meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates and other project related meetings.
  • Measuring and scaling distances along with competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.
