About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Construction Inspector to join their dynamic team of Engineers and Arborists working on projects for NYC Parks within the five boroughs of NYC. This full-time position includes intermittent opportunities for overtime work. The role involves using technical knowledge and experience to guide the City's tree preservation and street tree programs. As the role progresses, involvement with other NYC Parks programs and City agencies, focusing on urban forests and natural systems such as the Staten Island Bluebelt and park restoration projects, will increase. Further opportunities may arise at the state and national level.

Requirements

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Effectively represent Arcadis and our client agencies in interactions with clients, local agencies, and the community.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding design plans, specifications, and shop drawing submittals.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to be mentored and comprehend green infrastructure in NYC.
  • 2+ years of related experience in construction and/or civil engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily inspections, supervise, and control construction activities to ensure the overall safety of the site, compliance with permit conditions, and coordination with other city agencies.
  • Closely monitor and supervise the performance of contractors to ensure they adhere to technical requirements and maintain a high level of responsiveness and effectiveness.
  • Conduct on-site measurements, track quantities, and perform design work before and during the construction process.
  • Discuss measurement updates with the contractor to ensure all parties are in agreement.
  • Regularly report to the resident engineer, project lead, and professional engineer (PE) overseeing the programs to keep them informed.
  • Participate in a green infrastructure mentorship program to gain valuable knowledge and skills related to environmentally friendly construction practices.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and expert tracking records.
  • Verify quantities and line items in the field with contractors and client.
  • Hold and attend field meetings with both contractors and owners to discuss progress, schedule, and work remaining.
  • Function as an ambassador for the city’s urban forest resources during interaction with the city’s residents and landowners.
  • Administer all H&S procedures as required by the owner and as detailed in the H&S manual.
