About The Position

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for their Springfield office. This role involves the observation, inspection, and documentation of specific operations on construction job sites, primarily for transportation and utility infrastructure projects. The inspector will be responsible for thorough documentation of daily progress, computing and tracking materials and quantities, material sampling and testing, maintaining timely and accurate records, and general oversight of projects from beginning to completion. The position requires reading and interpreting plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents, recognizing and reporting deviations, conducting/overseeing laboratory and field testing of various materials, and maintaining clear and effective written and oral communication.

Requirements

Pre-employment drug screening is required.
Completion of MDOT Construction Inspector Certification Program or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
Proficient computer skills, MS Office, Bluebeam.
Traffic Control Supervisor, Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor, Asphalt / Concrete Pavement Inspection certifications or willing to obtain upon hire.

Nice To Haves

5+ years of construction related experience.
Background in material testing and / or industry related certifications.
Ability to cover the surrounding region as required providing on-site observation, inspection, and project documentation.
Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds.
Knowledge of typical construction practices, MDOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
Ability to work independently and incorporate efficient time management practices.
Ability to work nights as required for certain projects.
Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with the owner, landowners, and contractors.
Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
Experience working with MDOT, Local Agency projects and local municipalities and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.

Responsibilities

Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion.
Thorough documentation of daily progress.
Computing and tracking materials and quantities.
Material sampling and testing.
Maintaining timely, accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents.
Recognize and report any deviations from the contract documents.
Conduct/Oversee laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, and other materials.
Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication and be able to answer inquiries as required.
Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates and other project related meetings.
Measure and scale distances along with competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.
