About The Position

Project Solutions Inc. is seeking a Construction Inspector (CI) to provide full-time, on-site inspection and construction oversight services for the U.S. Coast Guard's Pier Mike Recapitalization project at USCG Base Charleston. This is a major waterfront infrastructure project involving the demolition and replacement of an existing pier, utility improvements, dredging, and related site work. The CI will monitor construction activities, verify compliance with contract requirements, document project progress, and serve as an advisor to the Government throughout the construction period. This role is contingent upon award of project.

Requirements

  • High school diploma plus 10 years of relevant construction experience, or a 4-year Engineering degree with 5 years of construction experience
  • Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certification/training completed within the last 5 years
  • Minimum 10 years of construction experience as a Construction Inspector, Superintendent, or Quality Control Manager; or 5 years of experience with a qualifying degree or certification
  • Experience inspecting and overseeing civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and utility construction work
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and building codes
  • At least 2 years of experience on Federal Government construction projects within the last 10 years
  • Experience with waterfront/marine construction projects, including concrete structures in marine environments
  • Experience with site improvements, underground utilities, and stormwater infrastructure projects
  • Experience working on design-build construction projects and participating throughout the project lifecycle
  • Proficiency in preparing reports, maintaining project documentation, and using construction management software and standard computer applications
  • Strong knowledge of construction inspection practices, construction methods, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting findings and coordinating with project stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document construction progress and compliance issues
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PDF software, digital documentation, and construction management software
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound professional judgment
  • Knowledge of Federal construction project requirements, safety practices, and inspection procedures
  • Ability to perform field inspections in active construction environments, including walking uneven terrain, climbing, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • PE, PMP, or QA/QC certifications are acceptable qualifications and may strengthen a candidate's profile

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily on-site inspection and surveillance of construction activities to verify compliance with contract drawings, specifications, and project requirements
  • Attend pre-construction, quality control, progress, and other project meetings, and prepare meeting minutes when directed by the Government
  • Review contract documents, construction schedules, submittals, and proposed construction changes, and provide recommendations regarding impacts to cost and schedule
  • Witness field tests, review testing reports, verify material compliance, and maintain logs of required inspections and testing activities
  • Monitor survey and layout operations, verify elevations and construction locations, and ensure contractor as-built drawings accurately reflect completed work
  • Review contractor payment requests, certified payrolls, and project schedule updates; verify quantities of work in place and labor utilized on the project
  • Maintain project records including daily diaries, correspondence, submittal logs, photographs, RFIs, change documentation, and weekly progress reports with photographic documentation
  • Participate in pre-final and final inspections, assist in developing punch lists, monitor correction of deficiencies, and support review of operation, maintenance, and closeout documentation
