About The Position

The ISL Calgary Transportation Construction Team is growing! We are open to considering candidates that want a Temporary project position (up to 6 months) or a permanent opportunity based out of Calgary, AB office. ISL is comprised of just over 600 employees comprised of award-winning engineers, technologists, planners, landscape architects, scientists, and much more that work together to deliver infrastructure projects that minimize environmental impacts and maximize benefits to the community. Returning from your break will offer you the opportunity to contribute to other project deliverables, which may include: cost estimation, bid preparation, drafting (AutoCAD C3D), and focus in on your continued professional development, ensuring you continue to grow in your role and are prepared for the next challenge. By accumulating banked time during the busier summer months, team members enjoy the flexibility to rest, recharge, and further their skills in advance of the next season.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years' experience as a Construction Inspector, field engineer or construction coordinator, or a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a superintendent or foreman.
• Working knowledge of construction specifications and standards.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license and the ability to attend project sites.
• Ability to work longer hours during the construction season which may include night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Utilize basic tools for field measurements and documentation of construction progress and quantities.

Nice To Haves

• Diploma or degree in civil engineering, construction management, construction, or a related field.
• Experience working on City of Calgary and or Alberta Transportation construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the onsite Engineer’s representative and will be responsible for overseeing construction activities on assigned projects.
• Conduct field inspections of earthworks, utilities (shallow and deep), road construction, asphalt, concrete, landscaping, streetlighting and related infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with safety, construction contracts, specifications, and drawings.
• Monitor construction progress and contractor schedules.
• Complete site documentation for record, including safety reporting, site diaries, daily and weekly reports, and photographs.
• Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with project leads, contractors, and team members.
• Work independently across multiple sites, demonstrating strong organization skills, initiative and reliability.
• Uphold safety protocols and adapt to varying field conditions (weather, physical activity).
• Support drafting, utilizing AutoCAD/Civil 3D software during winter months.
• Support cost estimation during winter months.
• Support and prepare tender documents during winter months.
• Receive company-paid training to round out field experience (AutoCAD, Safety training, role or client centric training for career growth and development in your role).
