About The Position

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for their Springfield office. This role involves inspecting transportation projects on construction job sites. While residing in Springfield is not mandatory, inspectors will report to various project locations. The position requires observing and documenting construction projects from start to finish, including daily progress, material quantities, material sampling and testing, and maintaining accurate records. The inspector will interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents, identify deviations, and conduct material testing. Strong communication skills are essential for attending meetings and answering inquiries. Competent math skills are needed for accurate documentation of work completed.

Requirements

  • Must be able to travel and stay out of town a week at a time as required providing on-site observation, inspection, and testing.
  • Capable of lifting and handling 50+ pounds
  • Knowledge of typical construction practices, MoDOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
  • Ability to work independently and incorporate efficient time management practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with the owner, landowners, and contractors.
  • Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
  • Experience working with DOTs or municipalities and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of construction related experience preferred but not required.
  • MoDOT Technician Certification is a plus or must be willing to obtain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion.
  • Thorough documentation of daily progress.
  • Computing and tracking materials and quantities.
  • Material sampling and testing.
  • Maintaining timely, accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
  • Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Recognize and report any deviations from the contract documents.
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
  • Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication and be able to answer inquiries as required.
  • Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates and other project related meetings.
  • Measure and scale distances along with competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.
