About The Position

Sparus Holdings is seeking a Construction Inspector to oversee the quality control function on natural gas distribution installation work performed by contracted crews. The inspector acts as a representative of the utility, ensuring work and materials comply with conformance requirements. This role involves maintaining a professional working relationship with contractors, vendors, and company personnel, and the inspector is empowered with Stop Work Authority and responsible for maintaining a safe work site. The position requires successful completion of training for the Northeast Gas Association and additional contractor specifications. The role involves inspecting crews joining plastic pipes and fittings, inspecting padding and shading material, logging fusions, and recording/mapping assets and as-built construction drawings.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license in the applicable state of employment
  • Must be able to work overtime when duties cannot be performed within a normal work schedule
  • 5 years combined experience in utility inspections, pressure testing, plastic pipe fusions, coating inspections, pipeline monitoring, natural gas distribution crew lead/foreman, and municipality distribution crew lead/foreman.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • While performing the duties of this job, employees regularly: Drive 50 to 200+ miles daily as required by the assigned geographic locating area
  • Stand and walk lengthy distances (1+ miles)
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of natural gas construction inspection experience is preferred, not required.
  • Must live locally in the greater Buffalo, NY, or surrounding Counties' territory.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the quality control function on the complete range of natural gas distribution installation work done by contracted crews.
  • Perform work as a representative of the utility.
  • Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with all 3rd party contractors, vendors, and company personnel.
  • Provide quality assurance through the inspection of work and materials in compliance with conformance requirements.
  • Maintain a safe work site.
  • Successfully complete classroom and hands-on training for the Northeast Gas Association and additional contractor specs.
  • Inspect crews joining plastic pipes and fittings using heat fusion or mechanical methods.
  • Inspect padding and shading material.
  • Log Fusions.
  • Record and manually map assets / as-built construction drawings.
