About The Position

This role involves construction inspection and safety oversight for new construction and modification projects of electric power transmission lines and substations. The position contributes to environmental compliance and project site management, demonstrating increasing capabilities in contractor oversight and safety management. Responsibilities include providing quality results on inspection duties, documentation, and communication, as well as assisting project teams with engineering and environmental-related issues. Incumbents must develop a working knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in substation and transmission line construction with typical voltages ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. The role may involve working with minimal to no direct supervision depending on the level (II, III, or IV), with increasing responsibility for project complexity, contractor oversight, and mentoring less experienced personnel as the level increases.

Requirements

  • Associate or Technical Degree
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License
  • ITS Qualified Operator
  • CPR/ Standard First Aid Certification
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Training
  • Defensive Driving 6-Hour Class
  • Concrete Inspector Level II
  • NPDES Level 1A Qualified Person Training
  • Familiarity with specification, contracting, and construction management practices, including inspection, quality control, OSHA safety requirements, and project control measures.
  • Knowledge of site development, substation and transmission line construction work, ITS switching, and standard utility construction safety practices.
  • Knowledge of specific instruments and equipment used to test high voltage equipment.
  • Ability to pass a NERC CIP personnel risk assessment screening.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction inspection and safety oversight on new construction and modification projects of electric power transmission lines and substations.
  • Contribute to overall environmental compliance and project site management throughout construction activities.
  • Provide contractor oversight and manage overall safety on projects.
  • Deliver quality results on inspection duties, documentation, and communication.
  • Assist project teams with construction support for engineering and environmental-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in substation and transmission line construction (12 kV to 500 kV).
  • Mentor entry-level and minimally experienced inspectors and environmental technicians (levels III and IV).
  • Work as the lead inspector on assigned projects or as part of an inspection team on larger or more complicated projects.
  • Manage simultaneous projects of high relative complexity, including those with challenging circumstances like hot line work or energized bus proximity (level IV).
