Mott MacDonald is expanding its transportation team in Western New York and is seeking a Construction Inspector I/II. This role involves working on highway, bridge, and other related transportation construction projects, requiring a basic understanding of construction industry standards and practices, and an interest in gaining expertise in large-scale projects.

Requirements

  • Have interest in a diverse range of construction projects including but not limited to bridge, highway, culvert, and related transportation improvement projects
  • Be detail oriented and demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks at a time
  • Possess appropriate level of education and/or experience
  • Have valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
  • 0-5 years inspection experience related to highway and bridge construction including New York State Department of Transportation, New York State Thruway Authority, and/or locally-administered Federal-Aid projects
  • Proficiency in collecting data, interpreting plans, conducting field measurements, performing calculations, and documenting work performed by contractor
  • Proficiency with standard software applications and ability to learn new programs
  • Associates Degree in Civil Engineering/Technology or Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering/Technology
  • Good organizational and interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monitoring of daily construction activities
  • Track and report quantity usage
  • Prepare daily work reports as needed
  • Verify conformance of materials supplied by contractor with standard specifications and contract documents
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications on projects as needed
  • Be willing to work weekends and/or weeknights as necessary
