This is an excellent opportunity for experienced ODOT inspectors, civil engineering interns or new graduates starting their careers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant field, or
  • Associates Degree (in applicable field), plus 2 years related experience, or
  • High School Graduate or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years related experience.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions required.
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record, criminal background investigation and drug test.
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as compaction, asphalt, concrete, aggregate or others useful.
  • Experience with construction of watermain installation, residential water service connections, other underground utilities, roadway restoration, concrete, asphalt pavement preferred.
  • ODOT Construction Inspection Prequalification preferred.
  • NICET Highway Construction Level II or Higher Certification preferred.
  • Experience with ODOT or municipal inspection preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all phases of field assignment. Interpret specifications, working drawings and convey intent to the contractor.
  • Interpretation and communication of working drawing intent to the contractor.
  • Responsible for all aspects of field inspection, interpreting construction plans, and enforcing specifications.
  • Generate and compile field reports via software on laptop and/or tablet
  • Daily communication with contractor and office personnel.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with local residents affected by construction.
  • Work with project staff on design changes.
  • Record daily installed construction quantities to review payment requests in terms of progress and amount completed to date.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Understand the public health and safety requirements and be fully trained in the proper safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
