About The Position

CMT is looking for multiple Construction Inspectors to hire for infrastructure projects in the Chicagoland area. Team members may be observing and recording activities on the Contractor’s construction progress in a fast-paced environment. You will need to be self-directed, capable of performing independent tasks as well as supporting multidisciplinary teams. You should demonstrate a passion and be actively engaged in the construction industry with a focus on the successful delivery of projects that meet our clients’ needs. The candidate may perform inspections services for more than one project at various sites therefore flexibility and adaptability are important to this role. CMT is seeking motivated Construction Inspection professionals to join our team in Northern Illinois. This full-time role offers the opportunity to work on water resource-related infrastructure projects while developing technical skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates leadership potential, a strong desire to learn, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of construction experience overall.
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Experience on water/wastewater infrastructure projects in a Construction Inspection role overseeing construction progress, site management, permitting requirements, code compliance and local regulations, conformance with drawings and specifications, contractor practices, QA/QC and inspections, commissioning, close-out, and final acceptance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with systems for organizing and managing construction-related communications, reports, photos, etc. (e.g., Kahua, e-Builder or other similar software).
  • Excellent organization skills and capacity to handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new priorities.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to exceptional client service.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and positive business relationships.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work on multiple construction projects (packages) and activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand and interpret contract documents and test plans for specific construction activities.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate project issues with contractor, project team and owner.
  • OSHA training/certification and Confined Space Entry certification (or ability to be trained and certified if hired).
  • Position will require work in both a field and office setting. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Must be available to work regular shift or swing shift assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Working at an active construction site in a manner that ensures personal safety as well as the safety of fellow employees by following project and company health and safety guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
  • Observing and inspecting stored materials and construction activities on active project construction sites, monitoring conformance with the contract documents including drawings, specifications, and other codes and regulations.
  • Notifying the appropriate Resident Engineer of contractor non-conformance and completing documentation as to the satisfactory completion of inspection or quality assurance test activities.
  • Monitoring the progress of construction activities and providing updates to the Resident Engineer.
  • Tabulating quantities and measuring dimensions of construction features.
  • Preparing documents and maintaining files of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures.
  • Following inspection processes and procedures outlined in the guidance documents and manuals provided by the Resident Engineer.
  • Performing duties above under the supervision of the Resident Engineer during either the regular shift or swing shift (i.e. second shift) as needed to accommodate the contractors’ work schedules.
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned by the Resident Engineer.
