About The Position

The Construction Inspector is responsible for inspecting and documenting construction activities on water, wastewater, and water treatment infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This role provides field oversight, supports quality assurance, and serves as a liaison among engineering staff, contractors, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily field inspections of water distribution systems, wastewater pipelines, pump stations, treatment plants, and related infrastructure to verify work is completed according to plans, specifications, permits, and accepted construction practices.
  • Review construction plans, shop drawings, submittals, and requests for information to ensure clarity, compliance, and constructability; identify deviations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor contractor activities, workmanship, materials, and safety practices; enforce safety measures and report violations.
  • Document inspection results through daily reports, photographs, test results, field measurement records, and “as-built” drawing verification.
  • Witness and document required field and materials testing (e.g., chlorination, backfill compaction, pressure tests, soil sampling) where applicable.
  • Coordinate with engineering staff, contractors, utilities, and regulatory personnel to resolve construction issues and maintain project progress.
  • Attend project meetings (pre-construction, weekly progress, safety meetings) and provide field insights on issues and schedule impacts.
  • Maintain accurate daily dairies, quality tracking, inspection logs, and project correspondence
  • Verify and validate contractor pay qualities for progress payments when required.
  • Perform materials inspection and acceptance prior to installation
  • Identify potential problems and notify the contractor and project engineer of any potential problems
  • Keep project engineer and supervisor abreast of progress throughout duration of assigned projects
  • Responsible for job specific quality system tasks as defined in quality manual
  • Compose, submit and log weekly status reports, weekly percentage completion reports, and daily reports to include: project conditions (i.e. trade manpower and work description), architectural and engineering communication and direction, general conditions, temperatures, weather conditions, general conditions and activities, site work, subcontractors and personnel, hours worked, description of work performed, equipment used, verbal discussions and oral instructions, phone conversations, visitors to site, job requirements, photos, videos, delays
  • Provide daily photos of entire job site construction progress. When necessary, provide photos to verify pre-construction existing building and site conditions
  • Post addendums to plans and specifications
  • Maintain as-built drawings for the duration of the project
  • Maintain satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards and maintain accurate records
  • Perform other duties as required
