About The Position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is a dynamic, 100% employee-owned consulting firm with over 2,800 professionals. They offer a full range of multidisciplinary engineering, architecture, information technology, and related services to public agencies and private clients across the United States. JMT's Trenton Construction Services Team is seeking to hire construction inspectors. This role involves applying standard inspection procedures to ongoing and completed construction work, ensuring structural quality, general safety, and compliance with plans, specifications, and codes. The position offers night shifts and compensation ranging from $30.00-$50.00 per hour, based on experience, education, and certifications. Immigration sponsorship is not available, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 - 5 years of construction inspection experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in construction techniques, reading plans, procedures, methods, equipment, and materials.
  • Experience in construction management/inspection situations relevant to the job description.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • Active driver's license.
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NJTA, NJDOT, County and/or municipal clients in New Jersey.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or engineering technology.
  • Client-requested certifications (NJSAT, ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician, TCC, CCTC).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification or NICET II certification or ability to obtain within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
  • Perform routine tests on concrete, soils, and other materials.
  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades, and/or pavement to ensure compliance with plans and codes.
  • Gather and maintain record documents.
  • Prepare daily reports and quantity measurements.
  • Make field notes and computations.
  • Communicate daily with the contractor and Resident Engineer regarding the status of work and issues.
  • Monitor project schedule.
