About The Position

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Construction Inspector II for its Transportation & Public Works Department, Capital Delivery Division. This role involves reviewing construction plans and overseeing infrastructure projects such as utilities, storm drainage, concrete, and asphalt paving. The inspector ensures compliance with plans, specifications, contracts, and regulatory requirements, including TCEQ regulations, TMUTCD, and work zone safety. The position also requires establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with contractors, utility providers, the public, and colleagues. The ideal candidate will be responsible, dependable, detail-oriented, and a team player.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two (2) years of construction inspection experience involving the construction and maintenance of public works, storm drainage systems, and structures
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, within one (1) year of employment, a Class C Water Distribution certification from the State of Texas
  • Must pass the City of Fort Worth Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) and a Drug Screen

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • At least three (3) years’ experience with utility, storm drainage, concrete/asphalt
  • Availability to work overtime and respond to call-backs on weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class C Certification

Responsibilities

  • Inspects work quality and materials used in a variety of public works projects during various stages of construction to ensure compliance with construction standards and codes, ordinances, and regulations
  • Performs preliminary and final inspections and recommends acceptance of developments
  • Observes work during progress and upon completion
  • Coordinates change orders and advise contractors of changes in plans and specifications
  • Ensures that safety procedures are followed
  • Inspects various public works structures including utilities, streets, sidewalks, gutters, structural concrete, storm systems and various other facilities
  • Acts as liaison between contractors and the general public with respect to various construction projects
  • A strong interpersonal, management, and excellent communications skills with the unique ability to be able to transfer these concepts clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing with the development community and internal City staff
  • Responsible for driving a City vehicle
