About The Position

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, works with minimum supervision and has responsibility for observing and properly documenting work performed by contractors in the construction and installation of water mains, fire hydrants services, water storage tank, booster pump stations, and water treatment facilities.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of water pipeline construction, including materials and construction methods used.
  • Complete knowledge of company construction specifications, and ability to read construction drawings.
  • Related technical background, including good knowledge of soil conditions encountered throughout the service area, as well as local governmental regulations regarding street openings, traffic control, barricades, and warnings.
  • Thorough familiarity with trench safety, safety practices and procedures, as well as sanitary procedures for disinfecting pipelines and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to write legibly and maintain sufficient field notes for preparation of as-built drawings.
  • Good reading skills and ability to quickly comprehend.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of company employees, as well as contractors, outside vendors, public agency representatives, and the general public.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and have good attendance.
  • Neat and presentable appearance.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical activities using feet, legs, hands, and arms, and be able to use a keyboard, walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb, reach, grasp, enter and exit excavations, and occasionally lift up to 75 lbs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years working experience in the construction and installation of water mains, fire hydrants and services.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade 1 water distribution certification.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with contractors to ensure compliance with company specifications, and assist with scheduling work between contractors and developers, where required.
  • Coordinate any field changes with contractor and engineering department.
  • Observe and schedule a variety of tests and measurements, including pressure testing, chlorine concentration and bacteriological tests.
  • Maintain field notes on projects to monitor daily progress, identify location of pipe, valves and fittings, and record quantity of work accomplished.
  • Inspect paving repairs and monitor temporary paving.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as directed.
