CEI/Construction Inspector I -North Carolina
About The Position
This role involves inspecting construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build improvements according to plans and specifications. The inspector reports to a senior inspector and a licensed professional engineer. The work requires interaction with clients, typically governmental agencies, and private entities, including construction contractors. The position involves performing field inspection and oversight of construction activities under the review and direction of a Project Manager, maintaining daily reports of inspection work and project progress, and reviewing contract documents for compliance with regulations and project requirements. The role also includes assisting with materials sampling and testing, verifying sufficient testing, and ensuring the accuracy of payment requests and invoicing.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) for transportation project
- Highly motivated and works well with minimal supervision
- Thorough knowledge of DOT specifications and standards with ability and willingness to study and advance relevant knowledge outside of work
- Must have functional computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must have the ability to complete inspector certification courses. Examples include DOT classes in hot-mix asphalt and ACI concrete sampling and testing
- Ability to travel for extended periods of time
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company MVR standards
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with SiteManager software is preferred, but not required
- Experience with Primavera and other scheduling software preferred, but not required
- Field testing certifications through TxAPA and/or ACI is preferred, but not required
Responsibilities
- Perform field inspection and oversight of construction activities under the review and direction of Project Manager
- Maintain daily reports of inspection work along with detail records of project progress
- Review Contract documents to verify compliance with governmental regulations and conformance with project requirements
- Assist with coordinating materials sampling and testing and verifying sufficient testing has been performed
- Verify accuracy of payment requests and invoicing for completed work
- Perform day and nighttime traffic control inspection
- Coordinate with contractors’ staff and effectively communicate with all parties
- Perform standard mathematical calculations involving linear distances, areas, and volumes
- Perform other tasks as assigned to help accomplish the Company’s strategic goals
