Construction Inspector - Engineering

About The Position

Reviews and monitors subdivision and site development and/or construction to ensure compliance with the plans, specifications and FBC standards. Represents the County Engineering Department at citizen and developer meetings and/or construction projects. May conduct inspection and administration of County Mobility and Capital Improvement Projects. Reviews independent testing laboratory results. Assists the engineers with shop drawings and submittal reviews for Construction projects. Cross-train with development and permitting personnel depending on office workload. Is Familiar with County and municipal subdivision regulations and applies knowledge to plat and site plan review. Reviews the implementation of laws, rules and policies in the various County regulations regarding subdivisions, site plans, easements, road names, addresses and signs. Informs public and answers questions with regard to subdivisions, site plans, and sign regulations. Assists and meets with citizens and landowners in discussion of all plan elements. Advises owners, developers, and consultants of procedures, principles, solutions and alternatives for development and provides assistance on applicable County regulations. Works with administrative staff to log subdivision plats and site plans. Contributes to quarterly County status reports. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 4 years experience in related engineering, construction or material testing field
  • Ability to understand civil engineering technology
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards, specifications and material testing procedures
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, topography and geotechnical information surface forms, recognize soil classification and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Good computer and mathematical skills
  • Good verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials
