About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation is seeking a Construction Inspector 4 to join their Delivery and Operations Division – Region 4 Construction Crew in Bend. In this role, you will perform design and inspection engineering work on projects, ensure contract compliance, and ensure accurate contractor documentation. You will also act as lead inspector and coordinator on multi-disciplined highway construction projects. The department provides a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system that connects people and helps Oregon's communities and economy thrive. Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the field of engineering in construction inspection, surveying, materials inspection and/or testing; OR An associate degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and one year of engineering technician experience; OR A bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related); OR An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Related experience, education, and training can include, but is not limited to biology, chemistry, construction management, forestry, geography, geology, geomatics, mathematics, physics, remote sensing and/or urban planning.
  • Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience interpreting contract plans and specifications.
  • Ability to track quantities and quality for all items incorporated on a project.
  • Experience communicating effectively with contractors and staff.
  • Experience providing detailed reports of daily activities.
  • Experience working with AASHTOWare, DocExpress or other related computer programs.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand contract plans and specifications for construction projects.
  • Perform complex engineering computations.
  • Review quality and quantity of materials and accept or reject materials that do not comply with specifications.
  • Inspect and document material and work performed.
  • Review contractor project schedules to confirm resources needed and report on assigned phases of work.
  • Supervise staff on project inspection and coordinate survey work.
  • Monitor and report safety issues.
  • Monitor Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and trainee programs for compliance and documents.
  • Manage project teams and project construction meetings.
  • Prepare drawings, maps and technical reports.
  • Perform and review survey data.
