IMI is seeking a full-time Construction Estimator (Civil & Fabrication) local to the Athens, GA area. The Construction Estimator will prepare project cost estimates for the industrial contracting environment, to include Civil dirt and concrete work, new shop fabrications, and structural steel elements. Focus would be on Civil dirt, site grading and concrete elements, but could involve field estimates for mechanical or structural support work. This role involves working alongside clients, departmental staff, material suppliers and subcontractors to formulate project cost estimates. The estimator will analyze blueprints, specifications, construction drawings and other project documentation to prepare labor and material estimates. Developing and maintaining a network of clients and vendors who provide bidding opportunities for the company, and establishing and maintaining relationships with subcontractors for use in estimates is crucial. The role also includes conducting site/bid walkthroughs and conferring with Engineers, Designers, Owners, Contractors, and Subcontractors on preparing cost estimates and any changes to estimates as they are surfaced. Additional responsibilities include conducting special studies to establish standard hour and related cost data driving cost reduction, reviewing material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to construct or subcontract components, and working with the Shops on fabrication methodology, including jig construction, and assembly techniques. The estimator will think critically to propose bid alternates, provide value engineering, and cost competitive solutions. They will prepare labor, material and subcontractor schedules of value and procurement and deployment projections, conduct high level scope reviews and project management briefs, and prepare scopes of work based on verbal guidance of clients or at the direction of management. Analyzing historical bid data and actual project costs to continually improve estimating practices and procedures, in an effort to maximize success rate and profitability for the company is also a key function. The role requires delivering a Project Turnover Package for Project Management upon award of contract and providing ongoing project support as needed. The employee must work within company policy as outlined in the IMI Employee Handbook and in compliance with the Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules. Other duties as assigned.
