About The Position

Compliance Management International (CMI) is seeking an experienced Construction & Environmental Safety Specialist / EHS Professional for a short-term Superfund environmental remediation and construction project in Passaic, NJ. This assignment is expected to last 4+ weeks, with the potential for contract extensions, additional CMI project assignments, or a long-term career opportunity. We’re looking for a hands-on safety professional with experience in environmental remediation, Superfund sites, hazardous waste operations, HAZWOPER, construction safety, and contractor safety oversight. This is initially a short-term / temporary contract assignment of approximately 4+ weeks. Project duration may vary based on site and client needs. Qualified professionals who perform well may be considered for additional projects, extended assignments, or long-term/full-time opportunities with CMI.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Construction Safety required
  • Experience with Superfund, hazardous waste, contaminated sites, or environmental remediation projects
  • Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER and required refresher training
  • 8-Hour HAZWOPER Supervisor training
  • Current First Aid / CPR / AED
  • Experience operating, bump testing, and calibrating air-monitoring and gas-detection equipment
  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910.120 HAZWOPER and OSHA 1926 Construction Standards
  • Strong hazard recognition, field safety, communication, documentation, and contractor oversight skills
  • Ability to work outdoors, wear required PPE/respiratory protection, and work in active remediation and construction environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Superfund/CERCLA, environmental remediation, contaminated soil, hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, air monitoring, PID/multi-gas meters, respiratory protection, decontamination, Level C PPE, HASPs, excavation/trenching, heavy equipment, confined space, and contractor safety management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily Construction Safety / Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) oversight
  • Support Superfund, environmental remediation, hazardous waste, and construction activities
  • Conduct site inspections, safety audits, field observations, and hazard assessments
  • Review JHAs, JSAs, AHAs, HASPs, and Pre-Task Plans
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 1926, and 1910.120 HAZWOPER
  • Support HAZWOPER operations, site control, decontamination, PPE, and respiratory protection
  • Perform air monitoring, atmospheric testing, and exposure monitoring
  • Operate, bump test, and calibrate multi-gas meters, PID meters, O₂/LEL meters, and other direct-reading instruments
  • Monitor excavation, heavy equipment, confined space, fall protection, and other high-risk activities
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, field coaching, and contractor safety oversight
  • Support incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, monitoring logs, inspection reports, and safety records
