About The Position

The Field Engineer is responsible for the planning and technical oversight of field construction activities within a specified discipline. This includes procurement, fabrication, installation, modification, and maintenance of systems and components. The role involves coordinating with design agencies for timely issuance of new designs or design changes, conducting constructability reviews of designs, resolving field design problems, and ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and code requirements. The Field Engineer also inspects materials, equipment, and workmanship, coordinates with Quality Control, and participates in turnover, start-up, and functional checkout activities. A thorough understanding of Construction Engineering principles and experience in preparing computer-based construction work execution plans, including job-specific hazard analyses (e.g., Asset Suite), are required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in specified discipline engineering and at least 5 years of practical experience in construction (specified discipline) field engineering OR Associate's degree in specified discipline engineering and 5-10 years of practical experience in construction (specified discipline) engineering OR High school diploma and 10+ years of practical experience in construction (specified discipline) engineering.
  • Working knowledge of discipline-specific codes and standards.
  • Previous experience with generating work execution plans (preferably utilizing the Asset Suite work control system).
  • Previous experience with generating job hazards analysis.
  • Previous experience performing material take-off and procurement.
  • Experienced with pipe/tubing fabrication and installation.
  • Experienced with pipe support fabrication and installation.
  • Experienced with pipe testing, hydrostatic and pneumatic.
  • Familiar with National Codes ASME Piping codes B31.1 and B31.3.
  • Capable of interpreting design drawings, P&ID’s and Orthographics.
  • Familiar with National Codes and Standards (ASME relative to Tank fabrication/installation, rotating and stationary Equipment, H&V, Insulation, etc.) and capable of interpreting and analyzing requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Experienced in H&V fabrication/installation/testing.
  • Experienced in setting of equipment, pumps and alignments.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Personal vehicles operated by candidate must have valid registration.
  • Personal vehicles operated by candidate must be insured with proof of insurance within the vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of SRS specific piping guides and standards is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SRS specific mechanical guides and standards is a plus.
  • Experience in developing ordinary and critical lift plans is a plus.
  • Experienced in radiological work planning and hazard analysis is desirable.
  • Capable of obtaining qualification to work in radiological work areas.

Responsibilities

  • Design output constructability reviews, including reviewing design output and vendor documents, field walk downs with design engineers, verifying design constructability, procedure and code compliance, field conditions versus design output, and material availability.
  • Submitting constructability comments and tracking them to resolution.
  • Supporting project team design review meetings.
  • Field material take-off and procurement support, including developing/expediting bill of materials (BOM), tracking material delivery progress, coordinating material delivery to the field, and verifying received material against ordered material.
  • Work execution plan development, including walk downs with craft supervision and support groups, developing installation sequences, generating work instructions, generating inspection and test records or coordinating with quality control, understanding layout/survey needs and generating requests, generating hazard analyses for field execution, and supporting/leading team hazard analysis review meetings.
  • Generating or supporting the generation of job-specific permits as required (e.g., Lockout/tagout, power services utilization, hot work, asbestos disturbance, confined space, radiological, excavation, hazardous waste).
  • Work Execution Plan Review & Approval, including attending/chairing execution plan review meetings, developing routing lists for hazard analysis and work plan approval, coordinating and expediting work package approval routing, dispositioning comments to the work execution plan, assembling the approved work execution plan, and providing status/updates in the SRS work control passport system.
  • Work Execution Field Coverage & Support, including leading pre-job briefings, performing task-ready walk downs, verifying quantities of installed commodities, coordinating daily field support, expediting/ordering material, coordinating material testing, coordinating and status shop fabrication, performing field inspections, and identifying/coordinating resolution of field installation issues.
  • Work Execution Plan Closure, including generating design completion notices, ensuring accuracy of work execution plan status, closing all required permits, and closing work execution plan documentation.
