About The Position

Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a Geosyntec Company, is seeking a motivated Construction Coordinator to contribute to their mission supporting work at LBNF/DUNE in Batavia, IL. Geosyntec is an international engineering and consulting firm. This role involves coordinating, inspecting, and overseeing all aspects of complex conventional facilities construction, focusing on safety, quality, schedules, and costs. The position requires ensuring that construction work and materials conform to specifications, contract terms, and applicable codes, while also overseeing contractor compliance with Environmental, Safety, & Health (ES&H) plans and OSHA Standards. The role is part of a team providing continuous oversight of work, potentially up to 24 hours a day, 5, 6, or 7 days a week, with an anticipated workload of approximately 45 hours per week. The candidate will also be available to rotate between shifts.

Requirements

  • Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance if required.

  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience preferred in heavy industrial/commercial or civil construction, or underground mining.
  • General knowledge of construction disciplines, including; excavation, concrete, structural steel, roofing, waterproofing, electrical, telecommunications, mechanical, plumbing, and building automation, etc. is desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills to enable effective interaction with Project, Fermilab, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with effective teams and partnerships across a wide range of stakeholders to deliver complex projects.
  • Ability to use MS Office, Primavera P6 and web-based project management systems.
  • Ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years preferred management and/or inspection experience in these fields.
  • Experience in working on capital projects with multiple stakeholders and significant contractor involvement preferred.
  • Familiarity with Construction Quality Management Programs will be a plus.
  • Familiarity with and working on projects under 10CFR851 Safety Requirements will be a plus.
  • Preferred safety training to include OSHA 30 Hour Construction, Fall Protection Competent Persons, NFPA 70E, Excavation Competent Persons, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Independently coordinate, inspect, and oversee all aspects of complex conventional facilities construction with focus on ensuring safe work practices, quality assurance, and following project schedules and costs.
  • Inspect construction work in progress to ensure that materials and work standards conform to specifications, contract terms, and applicable construction codes.
  • Oversee the construction contractors' activities to ensure compliance of their Environmental, Safety, & Health (ES&H) plans, applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards, and applicable hazard analysis.
  • Inspect and document construction work progress to ensure that materials and work standards conform to specifications and quality requirements of the contract and applicable construction codes.
  • Coordinate third party quality assurance inspection and tests.
  • Oversee construction contractors' daily shift activities to ensure compliance of their ES&H plans, applicable OSHA Standards, and applicable hazard analyses.
  • Ensure contractors provide acceptable work permits and associated hazard analyses (coring, confined spaces, excavation permits, work at height, domestic water, wastewater, electrical permits, etc.).
  • Coordinate construction contractor's activities with facility operations and other facility construction projects.
  • Issue reports to LBNF-DUNE NSCF project manager on construction concerns and work progress and ensure that proper documentation is maintained.
  • Develop cost estimates to compare with construction contractor change requests.
  • Verify construction contractor charges for work segments that have been completed.
  • Verify progress payment invoices and coordinate and perform final acceptance inspections.
  • Review and recommend approval of construction contractor’s payment applications.
  • Document changes in field conditions and changes in scope.
  • Prepare and process field-directed changes.
  • Communicate with subcontractors on daily/weekly work shifts.
  • Review contractor submitted as-built construction drawings for accuracy.
